Daily Assignment: Study

Back to school!  Retailers love back to school time;  new clothes, shoes, and school supplies!  My oldest son is in college and was excited about a new school year.  My youngest son is just starting high school and does not want summer to end.

Study.  How many students like this word?  I would say it is a very low percentage.  We like to learn new things and want to be intelligent,  but study takes discipline.  Self-discipline is not an easy thing. A survey of high school students that would allow another student to cheat from their paper was 58.3% in 1969 and 97.5% in 1989(FreePress July 1996).

What did Jesus say about the Tribulation Period?

Revelation chapter 6 and Matthew 24 are both about the 7 year tribulation period.

Jesus is telling the Jewish people about what is to come.  It is important when reading scripture to take note of who is talking and who is being spoken to.  Last month I shared with you about the rapture of the church.  Keep in mind when reading Matthew 24 that these scriptures are not about the church.  We are in heaven!

In Matthew 24:1-3, three questions are asked of Jesus.

Meeting the Lord in the Air-The Rapture-The “Catching Up” of the Church

Where will the Church be during the 7 year tribulation period?

The part of the Bible that is specifically about the Church is the New Testament Letters.  The present and future of the Church are revealed in these Letters.

The first letters that were written to the Church were  I and II Thessalonians.  Early believers had seen Jesus on the earth for 40 days after His resurrection.  In Acts 1:3 He ascended into heaven and  “This same Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven” Acts 1:8  These early Christians expected Jesus to return very soon.  When he did not and years passed and people began to die they were concerned about those people that had passed away.  What would happen to them when Jesus came back?   God’s Word came to them in the Letters from Paul,  I & II Thessalonians:

Open Up, It’s Jesus!

The classic image of Jesus knocking at the door is probably familiar to most of us.  My grandmother had a large print in a big gold frame with a light over the top.  The scripture that this picture is based on is also probably very familiar.  Revelation 3:20 “Behold I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.  Many sermons have been preached using this scripture in reference to Jesus knocking at the door of those who are unsaved, the “world”.

Are You Weary?

Do you ever wonder where, when, why and how your prayers are going to be answered?    Maybe God has given you a dream and the years keep passing by.  What about the time you have spent doing the right thing, being there for other people, sacrificing your desires and still you are waiting?  God's Word has the answer.  So let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don't give up, or quit.     Galatians 6:9 (MSG)

The waiting is the hardest part.  Every time I think about this scripture I think about Joseph.    You can read his whole story in Genesis chapters 37-49.

“Don't Worry” by Tammy Underwood

NOTHING SAYS SPRING MORE THAN THE SINGING OF THE BIRDS AND THE OPENING OF THE FLOWERS. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED LOOKING AT BIRDS. AS A CHILD, MY GRANDPARENTS HAD A LARGE BOOK WITH DRAWINGS OF BIRDS. I PULLED THAT HEAVY BOOK OUT OF THE CABINET EVERY TIME I STAYED WITH THEM AND TRIED TO FIND BIRDS THAT I HAD SEEN BEFORE. NOW THAT MY GRANDPARENTS HAVE PASSED AWAY, THAT BOOK SETS ON MY SHELF AND I AM STILL LOOKING AT IT WHEN I SEE A BIRD THAT I CANNOT IDENTIFY.
